ISSEY MIYAKE Shizheng Boutique is located in a rapidly developing district of Taichung, Taiwan. The first floor houses BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE, while the second floor is home to HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE, with both levels connected by an internal staircase. The BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE space on the first floor brings in views of the cityscape and natural light to create an airy, open atmosphere. Furniture made of aluminum panels with a hammered finish, inspired by "Tsuiki", a traditional Japanese metalworking technique, creates harmony between light and material, embodying the brand’s dedication to quality craftsmanship. On the second floor, HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE features furniture crafted from black-stained Japanese cedar with an "Udzukuri" finish. The resulting weight and subdued lighting add delicate layers of shadow that enhance the presence of the garments. The internal staircase connecting the two floors incorporates serpentine stone quarried in Taiwan. Its varied shades of green have long captivated me each time I saw it in the city. The stone strengthens the connection between the floors, and its solid weight further highlights the lightness of the clothing. Above all, I feel a deep sense of purpose in having seamlessly integrated a material that reflects the character of Taiwan.
